Biz Tips: Discovering Your Own Style #style #cognitivethinking #HCI #UX

Beauty and Social Cognition

At the end of January I wrote about how sex sells in the post, Is Victoria's Secret Too Sexy For Their Own Good?: "Sex Sells."  I've put some additional thought into this topic and how cognitive thinking makes us react to certain types of beauty (If you don't know what cognitive thinking means read this post).

Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder

How many movies do you enjoy watching because the aesthetics are pleasing?

I love watching some movies just because of the era (I love the time of the French Revolution and the 1920's to 1960's). I enjoy watching any movie with Brad Pitt or Matthew McConnehey just because the actors are attractive. Other movies are great because of the love story like Serendipity, How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, He's Just Not That Into You. I just love to see airplanes and fighter pilots in Top Gun. Some movies I enjoy the British accents (or just accents in general but Love Actually is great for this), and a select few are great for their interior design (Something's Gotta Give).

DIARY: IS VICTORIA'S SECRET TOO SEXY FOR THEIR OWN GOOD?

Does Sex Sell?

READ THE LATEST VERSION OF THIS ARTICLE (HAS BEEN UPDATED AND REPUBLISHED - 02/2015)

We all have heard the term: "Sex Sells." It's true. We like looking at "attractive" people, but what does it mean to be attractive? Whether they are a little over weight, tall, skinny, dark hair, light hair or anything in between is besides the point it's that we find them attractive, well groomed, or well dressed that we tend to Clammer toward. A Clammer is a marine crustacean that burrows into the depths, which is also how we got the term clammer, or to dig. So let's dig into this topic, shall we?

Using a CMS Vs. Not

This post is a response to: (http://develophorizons.com/2011_blog.php).

There are very few things you need to worry up-front about building a site, except if your style fits the designers’, the platform, and if they build your site up to web standards.

Many programmers will use a scare tactic to avoid building a site with a CMS because they do not believe in CMS platforms or don’t know how to use them properly. The reality is, that a platform is only as good as it’s designer/developer. If you don’t employ someone who understands how to program, not using a CMS is like shooting yourself in the foot or throwing money away. It simply makes it so you have to permanently employ the person who builds your site.

Your screwed.
