Links that say "click here" are a navigation failure hiding in plain sight

Links that say "click here" are a navigation failure hiding in plain sight.

On a page with twelve "learn more" links, visual scanning at least gives context from the text around each one. A screen reader user who pulls up a list of links gets twelve identical phrases and no way to tell where any of them go.

WCAG in plain English: the purpose of each link has to be clear from the link text itself, or from its immediate context in a way assistive technology can read. "Renewal requirements for commercial licenses" does that job. "Click here" does not.

We handle this in the system, not in a reminders document. Link components carry descriptive text by default, and highly opinionated components flag generic labels before they ship.

Write the destination into the link. If every link on the page still makes sense pulled out of a list, the page works.
