Automated accessibility checks in a pipeline are a floor, not a finish line.
A scanner in CI catches missing labels, empty links, and contrast failures early — when fixes are cheap. That matters. It prevents regressions and makes accessibility part of shipping, not a separate audit season.
But automation cannot judge whether focus order makes sense, whether an error message actually helps, or whether a workflow works end to end with a screen reader. Those require manual testing and testing with actual users.
Strong pipelines pair both: automated checks on every build, plus scheduled keyboard, screen reader, and usability testing before release. Highly opinionated components help here too — fewer ways to break a pattern in the first place.
Ship the checks into the workflow. Then do the human work automation cannot do.
