Every page turn in a children's book has to earn the next page

Every page turn in a children's book has to earn the next page.

A young reader will close a book the moment the story stalls, confuses, or repeats itself without building. There is no obligation to continue, no sunk cost keeping them there. The pacing has to respect their attention on every single spread.

Digital services rarely get that honest feedback. People persist through a confusing flow because they have to — a benefit, a deadline, a required form — not because the flow earned their persistence.

Build like a picture book anyway. Each screen should make the next step clear, carry only what that moment needs, and give a reason to keep going. Attention is not owed. It is earned, page by page, screen by screen.
