Gestalt Principles: How Brains Group What They See

Ana ordered the twelve-dollar salad. She got the twenty-dollar one — because on the menu, the price sat closer to the wrong dish.

Her brain wasn't careless. It was grouping.

That's Gestalt: Proximity — things sitting close together read as a team. Similarity — things that look alike read as related. Common region — things inside one box or card read as family. Figure-ground — your brain decides what pops and what fades back.

Your visitors' brains group your page before they read a single word. So put prices next to what they price. Put labels right beside their fields. Because if the spacing lies, your users pay for it — sometimes literally.

💡 The scenario I shared is a fictionalized composite informed by patterns I've seen firsthand. The people are fictional; the accessibility barriers are real.
